Barry Jackson

Background

Barry was born in 1963 in Burscough, Lancashire. He first picked up a digital camera in 2002 and was sucked into the surreal world that can be created. He doesn’t consider himself as a photographer but more of a digital artist and this is clear from the images he produces.

His work has been included in exhibitions in London, Lancaster, Liverpool and Mexico City. He is the author and illustrator of the book “Photoshop cosmetic surgery”, which does exactly what it says on the cover, reaching a worldwide audience. He has also written creative photoshop tutorials for Digital camera magazine further inspiring us lesser mortals to free our imagination and gain the skills needed to produce great art.

“My photography is a method of documentation, not of my physical life and its surroundings but of my inner thoughts and ideas. The images I produce are representations of my imagination at specific moments in time recorded by me as a way of remembering thoughts and ideas I once had. I very much follow the ethos of Man Ray who believed that the final image is far more important than the way in which it was created.”

So clearly a real talent in digital manipulation, he classes his work as photo surrealism. Sometimes weird and amusing, sometimes subtle and thought provoking, his work is always technically perfect and artistically unique. It looks good too.
