Emmesse 

Emmesse is best known for his surreal cityscapes. He is often told that he had a perfectly good painting until he painted something silly on it. He accepts this but still feels compelled to do it. He even feels under strict offers to do so. He suggests that this is Emmesse telling his alter ego to do it.

“I feel as if Manchester is just my backdrop for the emotional feeling or thought that I am trying to convey. I could just as easily be inspired to do paintings that incorporated another backdrop wherever that may be. I am often unsure what I am thinking or feeling and what I am trying to convey visually, it’s almost as if there is part of me that knows and I just hold the paintbrush and see what happens. The things that I think about are often very complicated, as is life. Sometimes I don’t believe the painting needs to be precise.

I like to paint and represent things naively as if I am a child allowed to doodle on his Dads work. The child that should know better maybe does. Know for me its about honing my craft and trying to understand what its all about whilst trying to visually represent it and inspire or provoke thought and emotion in others.”
