Portrait of dan parry jones

Dan Parry-Jones

Dan has always considered himself a painter and illustrator and his current work is truly mixed media in technique. Textured, semi abstract backgrounds are applied vigorously in layers with palette knife and scratched into. The surface usually masks a series of experimental layers that can have evolved over a long period of time. Figurative details are more graphic, reflecting his love of illustration and screen-printing.

Current work examines the theme of children at play: unselfconscious and lost in their activities.

Viewers of the work have commented that the expanse of space that surrounds the figure(s) can evoke both feelings of nostalgic freedom or perhaps emphasise the figure’s isolation and vulnerability.

Dan trained at Winchester and Derby Schools of Art and has exhibited work in exhibitions in London, Oxford, Bristol, Bath, Dublin, Europe and America.
