Artist
David Brightmore
Originally from South Yorkshire, David studied Business Management in Cardiff and Fine Art in Sheffield. Having lived in the Snowdonia village of Rhyd-Ddu from 1985 until 2004, he learned the Welsh language and possesses a close affinity with life in Wales. With a passion for the outdoors David has run and walked through most of the Welsh mountains and hills and though his landscape paintings are rarely specific to one recognisable place, they endeavour to express certain essential dramatic and lyrical qualities of the North Wales environment.
David has been a full time painter since 2000 and exhibited widely across the region and at a number of national art fairs both in his own right and as part of a collective; ‘Connections’. Other notable achievements include the position of Chairman of the Board of Management for respected gallery Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw, Llanbedrog, and his recent MA Fine Art.
“I am told that my work is vigorous and energetic; certainly my response to the environment has been both physical and emotional and maybe this comes across. I am currently influenced by the landscape of Clwyd, and the urban environment of Chester, Manchester and Sheffield. My most recent work reflects my interest in 'family history' – hence a series of 'figure-scapes', searching for the rhythm of land and figure, often in primordial settings. All of this, and reference to more global issues, I developed in my MA Fine Art course at Glyndwr University where the subject of 'rhythm and gesture in relation to romanticism' has been central to my studies.”
