Lisa Denyer
In 2009, Lisa graduated from Coventry University with a Fine Art Degree. She is now based in Manchester and has exhibited extensively in the North West and in London. Lisa specialises in contemporary landscape and abstract painting.
"My practice evolved from the idea of escapism; from everyday life into the natural world. It now centres around transformed observations. I use my painting time to experiment and to make sense of things.
I have always been fascinated by shapes, silhouettes, and simplified motifs. When I began research into crystal formations my focus shifted from vast landscape vistas and Romanticism to highly abstracted images of snow and ice crystals, and then geometric abstraction.
I have been inspired by aspects of the city, such as incidental architectural elements; light reflecting from windows and shadows cast by buildings. Prevalent themes in my current work include 'structures' and 'natural influences'. This has resulted in a move to a much more reductive and ordered process
In one of my latest projects; Crystal Abstracts, I have also been looking at microcosm and macrocosm and the idea of universal designs which span the cosmos. In a continuation of this project, I have begun an investigation into juxtaposing textures, utilising a formalist approach.
